Paperboy Austin: An All-Day Café on East 11th

Restaurant, food, and brand photography in East Austin for Paperboy and Marris Walker. Photography by Sarah Natsumi Moore.

A few years ago, Paperboy was a breakfast-taco trailer parked off East 11th. Today it's one of East Austin's favorite all-day cafés — breakfast, lunch, coffee, cocktails, and a back patio that catches the afternoon light beautifully. When chef Patrick Jackson and the team at design studio Marris Walker brought me in as their Austin commercial photographer, the brief was simple: capture the restaurant exactly the way it feels to be there.

We split the day between hospitality storytelling and commercial product work — the kind of dual brief that restaurant photography in Austin often calls for, because a modern café is also a brand, and that brand needs to live everywhere from Instagram to packaging to the printed menu in your hand.

The brand photography in Austin Texas side of the day was its own little studio shoot — granola pouches, house-made preserves, business cards, matchbooks, the whole identity stack. These are the images that end up on Marris Walker's portfolio and inside Paperboy's packaging mood boards, so they had to be both clean enough for a case study and expressive enough to feel like Paperboy.
